John was born on October 8, 1937 in Hoytville to the late Leo and Laura (Barcus) Dermer. John graduated from North Baltimore High School on May 28, 1956 and left for Great lakes Training Station, and the U.S. Navy less than one week later. After retiring, John continued to work for the Navy as a civilian; retiring after 10 years later. John’s civilian service took him to Venice, Munich, Brussels, Tel Aviv, Lisbon, and Brindisi. After completing 40 years of service to the Navy, John moved to Findlay to be closer to his mother, Laura. John, “Doby” to his friends, enjoyed hunting and fishing in the local area. John reunited with friends from high school he had not seen since leaving for the Navy. “Doby” and his old buddies were just as much trouble now as they were back then, just a little older and slower.
