Dorothy Mae (Underwood) Lawrence, of Findlay, peacefully passed away Christmas night, December 25, 2018 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family, she was 98. She was born on March 29, 1920 in Louisville, KY to the late William and Estelle (Harrington) Ellis. At the tender age of 5, Dorothy was adopted by William and Lyda Underwood, they both are deceased. On October 1947, she married Edward Barger Jr. and they divorced. Dorothy then married James “Bill” Lawrence on July 2, 1970 and he preceded her in death.
Dorothy was a graduate of Woodward High School in Cincinnati. In 1983, she retired from her secretarial duties at Cooper Tire and Rubber Company. Dorothy attended Central Church of Christ, Parkview Church of Christ, both in Findlay, and Chase Avenue Church of Christ in Cincinnati. She was a pianist and organist for 50 years.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Richard) Lyon of Findlay; her beloved grandchildren, Matthew (Aimee) Merino, Christopher (Christina), Nathan and Elizabeth Lyon; and great-grandchildren, Annaliese and Adelyn Merino, Alexander Wade, and Massimo Mastromano. She was preceded in death by brothers, Henry, Robert and John Ellis; and sisters, Jean and Willeta.
Friends and family may visit on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at HUFFORD FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 1500 Manor Hill Rd, Findlay (419-422-1500). A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 12 p.m. following visitation on Saturday with Pastor Jake Huber officiating. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Dorothy’s name may be made to Hancock County Humane Society or to the Charity of the Donor’s choice.
